There's a long list of improvements over the previous years. The 2020 Ford Explorer redesign brings this SUV into an all-new generation. While exact fuel economy numbers aren't in yet, it's EPA-estimated that this hybrid variant will get a range of at least 500 miles to the tank saving money at the fuel pump. The 2020 Explorer Hybrid also comes with an optional intelligent 4WD availability and it's the only Hybrid SUV in its class that can tow 5,000 lbs. It adds $4,000 to the price ($52,130 starting price) and features an electric motor combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a standard RWD powertrain. The 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid is only available in the Limited Trim. The new Ford Explorer ST comes with some black exterior elements, four-wheel drive, a tow package, sport seats (leather surfaces with micro-perforation and an ST logo with City Silver accent stitching), reverse brake assist, a sport-tuned suspension plus active park assist. It replaces the previous Explorer Sport model.

The 2020 Ford Explorer ST is the sport-focused trim.

The new Ford Explorer has a hybrid variant configuration as well. These higher trims come standard with 4WD whereas it's only optional on the lower trims. The ST and Platinum feature a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 instead that outputs 400 horsepower. The lower trims come standard with RWD and a 300-horsepower four-cylinder engine. This includes the base model XLT, Limited, ST and Platinum. There's a variety of configurations available on the 2020 Ford Explorer.
